Where to find cruises around the world

Posted by myarticlenetwork on March 5, 2010

Anyone who chooses a cruise holiday for their next getaway will be overwhelmed by the choice of destinations available. Considering that over two thirds of the earth is covered by water this is not a surprise. Whether choosing a short haul trip or an extended break, cruises offer huge variety and travellers of all types are guarenteed to find something that will suit them.

Mediterranean – West
Cruising the Western Mediterranean can be a popular and affordable way to enjoy some of the most famous places in Europe, such as Rome, Florence and Barcelona. Typically, holidaymakers will travel to top destinations such as France, Italy and Spain – including the Spanish islands. Depending on the specific cruise line’s itinerary, they might also stop in Portugal, Malta, Monte Carlo and Croatia. Cruises around the Western Med can be booked at any time of year, but during the winter months you may find that the cruise ships will substitute the cooler locations, such as France and Italy, with warmer choices, such as the Canaries or perhaps Morocco.

Mediterranean – East
Eastern Mediterranean cruises often include visits to the Greek Isles, Turkey’s Istanbul and Kusadas, eastern Italy, Croatia and ports along the Black Sea, such as the Ukraine and Russia. They offer plentiful sun and beach fun, but also immerse cruisers in history and culture. The majority of Eastern Mediterranean cruises take place from spring through to autumn to take advantage of the best weather.

Baltic Region and Northern Europe
While often over-shadowed by the sunny Mediterranean, cruises to the less tourist heavy Northern Europe and Baltic provide access to a wide range of cultures and unique scenery. While the Baltic region is sometimes hard to define, cruises in this area will usually cover cities such as Oslo, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Stockholm, St. Petersburg and Tallinn. A cruise is also recommended as the best way to enjoy the beautiful Norwegian fjords. And for a chilly but inspiring trip, you can head even further north with the cruises available around the artic and Greenland.

Transatlantic
For those who want to enjoy a leisurely trip to Florida or New York a transatlantic voyage on a luxurious cruise ship is the ultimate experience. These trips often spend 1 to 2 weeks at sea and include only a few ports of call, making these cruises perfect for people who enjoy ample leisure time on the open sea. A transatlantic cruise ship will host a variety of activities during the cruising, including cooking classes, movie theatres, planetariums, spas and gourmet restaurants.
