The Internet has changed our lives in more ways than anything else in human history has. It has made us all more connected and has enabled us to live better lives.
Consider the example of shopping. Earlier, shopping used to be a slightly mundane task. Sure, there is thrill in going out and purchasing different things however the very thought of going out to purchase things every now and then was boring.
Online shopping, however, has changed all that. You can buy just about everything online. You may buy a small pin, custom koozies, or even a car. A wide range of e-commerce sites sell a variety of products.
Another benefit of shopping online is that you have a wide variety to choose from. Apart from that, you will see some deals perennially. Subscribe to these sites to be notified of discount offers on a regular basis.
It is convenient and many sites have the option of a free home delivery. This means that you can pay for the product and get the product delivered to your doorsteps 24 hours from your purchase. You may even gift other people if you want.
Some items including custom koozies, can be personalized. For items such as these, the wiser option would be to go for smaller e-commerce websites that focus on a few products. The service that you get will be a lot better.
Online shopping has truly been a welcoming change in the last few years. Internet is easily accessible from most locations and thus convenient too. Instead of driving to a shop, you may purchase anything online. You can also buy “anything” as there are thousands of sites that sell every item, every model, every brand.

There’s an old Chinese proverb that says “a crisis is an opportunity riding a dangerous wind” – and that is how many are treating today’s lack of job security. More and more professionals these days are looking to make it on their own steam. Do it right, and it can be hugely rewarding. Imagine earning all the fruits of your own labour. However the majority of new businesses fall flat in the early stages. Planning things properly from the outset can meant the difference between success and failure in those early days.
This is not an exhaustive list by any means. However speaking from personal experience I think these are a few of the most important factors for success:
• Do something you enjoy. The road ahead is likely to be arduous and demanding. The people who make it a success on their own are the ones who live, breathe and sleep their work.
• Get a pro to do your accounting. My advice is don’t go it alone when it comes to taxes unless you have experience with it – letting an accountant deal with it can really save a lot of hassle. Even if it’s only for the first year or so.
• Think about your online presence. The web can be the best friend of the small business owner. Whatever your industry, it’s pretty much guaranteed that many of your customers will be looking online. There has never been a more effective way of getting leads and customers. A well designed, effective website can get you a long way. I would especially recommend delving into Google Adwords and SEO to gain traffic from search engines.
• Learn from your competitiors. Then Do it Better. Dont try and reinvent the wheel – learn from the wisdom your competition has gained of how to be successful. Have respect for the fact that they know what they’re doing to a certain extent at least. Then take it one step further and see what they aren’t doing but should be. Identify a Unique Selling Proposition, however small. Ignore this at your peril.
• Appreciate your staff. If you have a team underneath you, no matter how small, you need to look after them. You’ll need them more than ever right now so show them they’re appreciated by treating them now and again, or taking them out on team building days.
• Dont waste money on advertising that doesn’t work. There are always going to be a number of channels you can use for advertising. However you’d be surprised at how many small businesses aren’t aware of whether their advertising is paying off, and consequently they keep wasting money on ineffectual methods. It is invaluable to find out the advertising source of your custom. With online marketing this can all be automated within an analytics package – but it can be as easy as asking your clients how they found you. Then, crucially, act on this information, and review, rinse and repeat every few months.
