During the Twentieth Century, combat boots underwent a huge transformation from a product that was suitable for soldiers to a fashion accessory which was suitable for teenagers. Combat boots represent the homogenisation of an item that represents authority into the mainstream culture of the Twentieth Century. The movies are a place, in addition to pop music, where combat boots can be seen to be worn as part of the cultural icon’s clothing and equipment.

Rambo is one of many well known films featuring American actor Sylvester Stallone in which the lead character is seen to wear combat boots. The image of combat boots is further reinforced by films like the Dirty Dozen in the nineteen sixties. Combat boots are also used a metaphor, especially in films like ‘Your Mother Wears Combat Boots proving that they can be used in film in various ways. {Combat boots are not only depicted in a literal setting such as those in films that show the military, but also in films that use combat boot as a metaphor for something else, such as in the film ‘Your Mother Wears Combat Boots’.} In this film, whilst the armed forces are featured, the real story is about the relationship between a mother and her son.

Of course, the counter-culture that is acknowledged when civilian’s wear combat boots is also prevalent in music rich popular films. In the ‘Goth’ movement, combat boots are an essential part of the image, which supports heavy rock music and prefers to dress in black clothing and wear dark make-up. Combat boots also feature in the gothic inspired film The Lost Boys in which a group of teenage vampires feature.

Combat boots appear in numerous other films and are often featured in civilian roles as well as in roles starring the armed forces. People who wear combat boots in films must surely be aware of the immense popularity of the boots given the prominence placed on them in films. Combat boots could even be described as having taken over from the actors and actresses in films as the main stars.
