Wine gift baskets have become more popular in recent years. Wine itself is a classy gift. A wine basket can be an elegant way to express congratulations, gratitude, or just friendship. The final step in purchasing a wine gift basket will be the accessories that you will include. Accessories for wine baskets can include food, tools, and literature. It is important to select the food according to preference of the receiver and also to the type of wine. Toasted sesame crackers are usually included with white wines, while a chocolate bar works best with a cabernet. Other foods that are generally included in wine baskets are apples and oranges, cheese spreads, cashews and olives.

Another common accessory for wine baskets is the glass. The type of wine also determines the type of glass chosen. Red wines are typically served in glasses with larger bowls. Champagnes are served in flutes. And white wines are served in glasses with long stems and small bowls. The number of glasses included in the basket should be determined by the occasion for which the gift was given.

Other items can be used to fill out the basket. For example, a beginner may enjoy some literature on how to choose a wine or the history of a particular winery.
