As a popular hobby, metal detecting has grown by leaps and bounds. It has gathered followers from all over the world and not just in the US. Due to this rising popularity, those who practice treasure hunting and metal detecting take the short routes without caring about the basics, the necessities and things that make a good hunter.

A never-ending flow of new detectorists is a great boost to the activity. More people getting interested on it means having more information to share and more products available for you to have better choices in terms of quality, price and kinds. However, having new hobbyists who don’t practice the right methods in metal detection and treasure hunting will only put the hobby in a bad light.

Sure, having good equipment will definitely aid in your success in this activity, but being armed with the best metal detectors can only take your hunting so far. Honing great habits and enhancing your instincts will be able to help you in the long run.

Even the most basic creed that metal detectorists adhere to is a great guide for each hobbyist.

1) Respect private property and ask for permission for you to hunt in the area.

2) To be careful not to cause any disturbance even in structures that are abandoned

3) Leave all gates are they are found

4)Have respect for nature

5)To remove and dispose of trash found

6) To report to the authorities sites found with live ammunition, hazardous materials, and lethal objects

7) To check and follow rules, regulations, and ordinances governing public sites

8) Don’t leave holes or unfilled excavations unattended

Bear in mind that we act as ambassadors ourselves. These will lead the way towards better relationships with the non-metal detecting public and be able to welcome to the local scene the metal detector wielding hobbyist instead of regard him with dismay and ridicule.
