Founded in 1820 was this continent where only a few sealers, explorers, and scientists have been to. Although some of the Navymen at McMurdo Station had not seen women for a year, the greeting they gave the stewardesses was less than enthusiastic. People at McMurdo are also not excited over the idea of having tourists come in January and February. For the civilian technicians, scientists, and sailors, they are here because they have been chosen to perform special assignments in this continent. They see it as the adventure in Antarctica being lost with the coming of tourists. It was in 1955 where the only people inhabiting Antarctica were US Navy personnel and American scientists.
